HISTORY
The story of the St. Clair County Airport (KPLR) began in 1966 when a parcel of land was purchased from Marlin Hugghins and designated an airport property. The runway, taxiway, airport grounds and facilities were completed the same year and the opening was attended by then-Governor George Wallace. Over the years, the airport has been home to several military reserve units, an EAA chapter and a Civil Air Patrol unit and the FAA has designated KPLR as a “reliever” airport for Birmingham.
Today, KPLR supports a vibrant general and corporate aviation community. Current amenities include multiple sizes of hangars available for rent, a flight training school, aircraft rentals, maintenance facilities, an avionics shop, conference rooms and a serene and relaxing pilot lounge. Fuel services include full-service and 24-hour self-serve 100LL avgas availability as well as full-service jet fuel.
